A Powerful New Year Message for Women: Change Your Life, Enrich the World

Life Equity“THE LIFE YOU’VE LED HAS PREPARED YOU FOR THE LIFE YOU DREAM OF.”
- Congressman Marsha Blackburn

(Washington) – Congressman Marsha Blackburn invites women everywhere not to quietly crack open the door of opportunity, but to kick it down, take it on, and make it happen. “As women, we tend to compare ourselves to others and undervalue the talents we already possess.” says Blackburn. “Mom was right though, there will always be someone richer, smarter, prettier, and more talented, but no one else is uniquely you.”

In her new book, Life Equity (Thomas Nelson, January 2009) Blackburn encourages women to use what is “uniquely you,” and bring their mighty powerful leadership skills to the table. “It’s not about demanding our rights. It’s about deploying our gifts,” writes Blackburn. “In a day in which we face unprecedented challenges — locally, nationally, and globally — far too many women leaders are standing in the shadows.” READ MORE »

Thomas Nelson Unveils New Bible Translation

The Voice New TestamentThe Voice™ New Testament Release Launches The Voice™ Translation that Engages Today’s Culture in Biblical Narrative

(Nashville, Tenn) – This week, Thomas Nelson, Inc.’s Bible Group has officially launched a new Bible translation, The Voice™, with the release of The Voice™ New Testament. This is the first completely new Bible translation available to readers in several years.

The Voice™ translation captures the different writing styles of the New Testament authors, revealing their unique voices to readers instead of homogenizing the text. About 40 different authors are believed to have been inspired by God to write the Scriptures. The Voice™ is distinctive in that it retains the perspective, the voice, of the human writers. Most English translations attempt to even out the styles of the different authors in sentence structure and vocabulary. Instead, The Voice™ distinguishes the uniqueness of each author. The heart of the project is retelling the story of the Bible in a form as fluid as modern literary works while remaining true to the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts. READ MORE »

Isle of Fire by Author and Teacher Wayne Thomas Batson Awarded 2008 Moonbeam Award

Isle of Fire(Nashville, TN) Thomas Nelson is pleased to announce that Isle of Fire, a familiar face on the CBA bestseller list, is the proud recipient of the 2008 Moonbeam Award Silver Medal for Young Adult Fiction. For an award that recognizes not only the creators of exemplary children’s books but also authors who support literacy and life-long reading, there could not be a better choice.

Having witnessed firsthand the lack of quality reading material for young minds, Batson set out to develop his own teaching tools through the creation of his first published series, The Door Within; and now with his second series, Isle of Swords and Isle of Fire. Batson involved his students in the writing process, welcoming critique of his work.
