Nelson Veteran Joe Powers to Retire

Joe Powers(Nashville, Tenn.) Thomas Nelson, Inc. President and CEO Michael S. Hyatt announced today that Joe Powers will retire from his post later this month. Powers, who announced his retirement in July of 2007, served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer until last November when he transitioned into the role of Executive Vice President of Strategic Development. Powers will continue to act as a financial and tax consultant for Thomas Nelson through July of 2009.

“Joe has been a valued member of the Thomas Nelson leadership team for almost forty years,” said Hyatt. “He was instrumental in helping Sam Moore build Thomas Nelson into the world’s largest Christian publishing company. A Quarter of Thomas Nelson Employees to Run Half Marathon This April

TN Marathon Poster(Nashville, Tenn.) Last December, Thomas Nelson President, CEO, and avid runner Michael S. Hyatt issued a challenge to his 630-person workforce to run Nashville’s Country Music Half Marathon or Dallas’ Big-D Texas Half Marathon with him. His goal was to recruit one hundred and fifty-eight employees, roughly a quarter of the workforce, to participate in one of the two races. As of last Thursday at the Thomas Nelson Half Marathon Kick-Off Meeting, one hundred and sixty Thomas Nelson employees, thirty-two spouses, and fourteen authors, agents, and vendors were registered on the Thomas Nelson team.

“I ran the Country Music Half Marathon last year with about sixty-five employees and it was an awesome experience,” said Hyatt. “I was so proud of what we accomplished during the race. Also, I witnessed extraordinary personal and professional growth in each of the runners. The experience left them with an amazing sense of empowerment. Over 7,000 copies of 3:16 were sold at the 3:16 Live and Women of Faith National Conference in San Antonio, Texas.
