Heaven Is For Real Best-selling Book Reaches New York Times List

In March 2003, Todd and Sonja Burpo were on the verge of their worst nightmare – losing a child. Their 4-year-old son Colton’s appendix had unknowingly burst days before, and he was now fighting a life-threatening infection. To save Colton, surgery was the only option. Darren Whitehead and Jon Tyson Sign with Thomas Nelson

(Nashville, Tenn.) Thomas Nelson will publish an important new book by Darren Whitehead and Jon Tyson, it was announced today by Brian Hampton, Senior Vice President and Publisher, Thomas Nelson Non-Fiction Trade Group. Rumors of God: Experience the Kind of Faith You’ve Only Heard About, which will be released in August 2011, calls believers to reject what is simply plausible and to cry out for God to bring what is possible in our lives and in the church.

“We are excited to be publishing this fascinating book,” said Hampton. “As Darren and Jon say, most Christians today live with a difficult, discouraging tension. Quite simply, what is promised in the Scriptures seems like a far cry from what they experience in their lives. The book addresses that tension straight-on, with authenticity and hope.  I can’t think of a more relevant message.”

Originally from Australia, Darren Whitehead has been on staff at Willow Creek Community Church for 6 years.  As the Teaching Pastor, Darren and Senior Pastor Bill Hybels share the weekend service responsibilities to provide teaching for all five campuses. With more than 160 paid staff under his supervision, Darren is one of the most influential voices shaping the future of Willow Creek.  Darren lives with his wife, Brandy, and their three daughters just outside of Chicago, Illinois.

Jon Tyson is the Lead Pastor of Trinity Grace Church in New York City. Jon moved to the U.S. 12 years ago and worked at several suburban mega churches in next-gen ministry before planting TGC 4 years ago. Jon works, lives, and serves in one of the largest cultural and future missionary contexts of the world, the urban center. Trinity Grace Church has churches in the Upper Westside, Upper East Side, Chelsea, Brooklyn, and the East Village. Jon has keen insights and experience in planting churches in the secular, post-Christian context. Originally form Adelaide, Australia, Jon lives in Manhattan with his wife, Christy, and 2 children.
