Thomas Nelson Unveils New Bible Translation

The Voice New TestamentThe Voice™ New Testament Release Launches The Voice™ Translation that Engages Today’s Culture in Biblical Narrative

(Nashville, Tenn) – This week, Thomas Nelson, Inc.’s Bible Group has officially launched a new Bible translation, The Voice™, with the release of The Voice™ New Testament. This is the first completely new Bible translation available to readers in several years.

The Voice™ translation captures the different writing styles of the New Testament authors, revealing their unique voices to readers instead of homogenizing the text. About 40 different authors are believed to have been inspired by God to write the Scriptures. The Voice™ is distinctive in that it retains the perspective, the voice, of the human writers. Most English translations attempt to even out the styles of the different authors in sentence structure and vocabulary. Instead, The Voice™ distinguishes the uniqueness of each author. The heart of the project is retelling the story of the Bible in a form as fluid as modern literary works while remaining true to the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts.

The lively translation represents a collaboration of historians, poets, storytellers, and songwriters which celebrates the beautiful narrative of Scripture while providing a true interpretation of the traditional Bible text with historical and cultural expansions of the story and background on setting and characters. The project’s screenplay-like format is ideal for a unique individual read as well as group studies and dramatizations. Devotional commentary further helps readers understand the context of the biblical story.
Featured writers, scholars, artists, and musicians contributing to The Voice™ include: the president of Ecclesia Bible Society and internationally acclaimed speaker and pastor Chris Seay (project founder); professor of Greek and New Testament Studies at Houston Baptist University David B. Capes Ph.D.; internationally known speaker and author of over 12 highly acclaimed books Brian McLaren; theologian, author, and futurist Leonard Sweet; and nationally renowned author Lauren Winner. The translation and literary style of The Voice™ have been checked extensively by biblical reviewers, theological scholars, and a biblical archeologist, among others.

The Thomas Nelson scholar/author team, which includes Blue Like Jazz author Donald Miller, is currently working on the Old Testament books which, when finished, will comprise The Voice™ Bible in its entirety.

What makes the Voice Bible different from the next? You have been publishing Bible’s since 1798, and yet you still find fascinating ways to continue interpreting the words in your books. If you were actually comparing scriptures from the original Hebrew and Greek formats, then there isn’t much to use, due to those copies being fragments. Albeit there have been a numerous editions published over decades, there is only one Bible that speaks the true King James message and that’s the Revised edition dated in 1611. Most Bibles after that are virtually replica’s of another replica. In 2 Peter 1: 20 it enlightens the reader that “there are no interpretation for the Scriptures, for teh word did not come by the will of man, but by men who were moved by the Holy Spirit.” Even more interesting, in Revelation 22: 18 & 19 of your many Bibles published, it reads that no one is to add to the words of this book or take away words from this book. Furthermore, in I Corinthians 2: 14 it reads: “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Which makes me question the integrity of your publishing efforts. It seems you are merely using the Bible has a means of funding and financial gain. Yes, 2 Timothy 3: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine… But remember, the key phrase is “inspiration of God”.

Please beware that it is extremely important to publish your revised edition Bible’s the way the original manuscripts you proclaim to be using. I have noticed a lot of your Bible’s don’t read the same from verse to verse. In fact, you have published some Bibles that have a few scriptures missing altogether. So, please make sure your educated biblical scholar’s are followng proper protocol when editing teh material, it helps to cut down litigation’s.

When will The VOICE Old Testament be released? The VOICE seems to be accurate, complete, and very readable; my criteria for evaluating a translation. Once the Old Testament of The VOICE is completed, I will have my core of translations- New King James Version, New Century Version, and The VOICE, all Thomas Nelson products! I really like these translations.
